Alana Karran
Alana Karran’s new novel, Cast Your Fate to the Ocean, is the epic portrayal of a woman’s search for identity, meaning, purpose, and belonging. American-raised Fallon, an oceanography PhD Candidate, finds herself shocked into an existential crisis when she returns to Ireland, the homeland of her parents, to spread their ashes, only to find she is not their biological child. Fallon begins to unravel the truth of her origins through myths and stories told by the townspeople and a series of haunting dreams that beckon her ever closer to the sea. Her shero’s quest takes her deep into the underbelly of her being and that of the planet, examining the interconnectedness of all things. Her destiny ultimately clear, Fallon becomes a voice for the sick and dying ocean and makes a fate-driven sacrifice to ensure its survival.
A graduate of Antioch University, Invite Change, Leadership Tomorrow, and currently completing Stanford University’s Novel Writing Program, Alana creates connections between seemingly divergent issues, making it possible for multi-faceted viewpoints to converge into a shared vision. Through her empathetic whole storytelling, she inspires others to create and implement paradigm-shifting practices that support sustained wellbeing for all, including the planet.
